ABOUT THE CENTER FOR NEW JEWISH CULTURE
At the Center for New Jewish Culture (“The Center”) we’re building a cultural community center that nourishes the mind, body, and soul in the former Union Temple building at 17 Eastern Parkway. This historical site, originally designed as a central hub for Jewish life in Brooklyn in the 1920s, spans over 75,000 square feet and includes a gym, swimming pool, school, ballroom, and theater space, offering a unique blend of history and future opportunity. We are in a pivotal moment of growth and transformation, currently in the midst of a $90M+ capital campaign that will enable us to expand our reach, deepen our impact, and realize an ambitious vision for the future: a Jewish home for the next century of American Jewish life.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Center for New Jewish Culture (“The Center”) is seeking a visionary and dynamic leader for the role of Director of Advancement. This is an ideal role for a senior development professional who is excited about being part of something new and groundbreaking. The ideal candidate will be prepared to “hit the ground running,” enthusiastic about contributing to the renaissance of Jewish culture in Brooklyn, and experienced in cultivating, soliciting, and closing seven- and eight-figure gifts.
The Director of Advancement will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive advancement program that supports the sustainability and long-term growth of The Center. They will oversee all fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate and foundation partnerships, special events, and the planning and execution of a capital campaign. The Director of Advancement will work closely with executive leadership, members of the Board of Directors, and the Fundraising Committee to cultivate meaningful philanthropic relationships and secure transformational, high-level support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy, Campaign & Fundraising Execution
Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive, multi-year advancement strategy encompassing the capital campaign and annual fundraising. Set clear revenue goals, KPIs, and performance metrics, and regularly report progress to senior leadership and the Board. Direct all aspects of the capital campaign, including strategy, timeline, donor pipeline, and materials, and partner closely with Board and Fundraising Committee members to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts. Build and manage a diversified fundraising program across individual, corporate, and foundation support, with a strong focus on new donor acquisition, long-term stewardship, and retention. Continuously assess performance and adjust strategy to ensure fundraising success and growth.
Donor Strategy, Board Engagement & Communications
Drive a high-touch, relationship-based approach to donor engagement, including the design and execution of meaningful cultivation, solicitation, and recognition strategies. Activate and support Board members and volunteer leadership as effective fundraising partners by providing clear strategy, tools, and accountability. Partner with executive leadership to ensure consistent, compelling storytelling and oversee an integrated donor communications strategy that reinforces impact and deepens engagement.
Development Operations & Management
Implement and maintain rigorous development systems, including moves management, donor database integrity, and a comprehensive calendar for proposals, reports, and stewardship activities. Ensure timely gift acknowledgment and high-quality impact reporting. Supervise development staff and committee, and coordinate external consultants as needed, while ensuring full compliance with fundraising regulations and ethical standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Demonstrated track record of managing successful campaigns, projects and events, and securing 5-7 figure gifts.
8+ years of fundraising experience, including capital campaigns.
Experience working with executive leadership and governing boards.
Strong strategic planning, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Proficiency in donor management systems (CRMs) and fundraising best practices.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary: $230,000-$250,000/year, commensurate with experience and track record.
